Blu Harbor series: Fire Within Me by Crystal Seller Review!

Monday, June 13th 2016

Hello and welcome to another day at Lia’s Bookish Obsession.

As always I was given this book through Pecan Summers and Crystal Sellers in exchange for an open honest review! Blue Harbor Witches, is a new series by our beloved author Crystal Sellers, even though I’ve already read the first installment, I’m rather curious what else is in store for our protagonist Beth. Fire Within Me is published March 14, 2016 , meaning it’s currently available for your reading pleasure on Amazon!

Elizabeth Strong is the only child of Caroline Strong. Beth has a loving cousin name Eric, who would die in order to keep her safe. Beth has a promising teacher career a head of her. Beth has everything anyone could ever ask, her life is the definition of mundane, well expect for that story her mother use to tell her. Ever since she was a child, her mother would tell her a unique bedtime story, catered to Beth’s ancestors.

A story of a family curse placed through a family fueled between the Strong Family and the Merk Family, a tale of betrayal, hurt, and revenge. Her mother would never tell her the full events that occurred, only promising her she would tell more to Beth on her 25th Birthday. Time has passed by and Beth continued to live a prefect life. Her birthday is only months away from her graduation ceremony, she would soon her the rest of this odd family story and continue on with her life, simple. But besides that odd bedtime story, what more could a person as for? Beth has friends, the devoted love of a parent, family that supports her and then cue the prefect guy walks into her life James Wilson 3rd. He’s a handsome lawyer that took ABSOLUTELY no time swiping Beth from under her feet. This is the beginning off the prefect life for Beth, or at least she thought.

James Wilson, however was not a perfect man, if anything he is a tyrant who only abused Beth, keeping her away from all those who truly love her. As time passed Beth mother grew sick, while Beth consistently continued to push away engagements to hide the abused she suffered under the hands of her finance. Time doesn’t stand still forever nor does the cold has of death. With her mother dead, Beth has never felt more alone in the world, and  with a cruel twist of fate she’s also given a chances for a new life. How far with Beth go to start a new? What danger will she face in order to get away from the cruel hands of her respectable finance?

What I loved about the book!
Beth is a survivor! I was extremely nervous how Beth was going survive the physical abuse of her fiancé. As a survivor of a physical abusive relationship, I though the timing of the abuse period was realistic.Beth had only suffered for a few months, but I’m sure that time period felt like eons to her. Since the abuse did not continue for years Beth had a better chances getting away from the abusive relationship before, she ACTUALLY got married. The longer the relationship continues the harder it is for the victim to truly leave, or get help.  I love the fact that her cousin Eric stepped in when her mother passed away. Love is a strong force, and people will do anything to protect the ones they love.

I was even more nervous on how Beth was going to live, since her mother is nolonger alive and living with a bunch of guys after being abused wasn’t exactly comforting. Without recalling noticing it, the magical elements of the book were already beginning to take part the closer she birthday approached. A mystical force was pulling Beth to where she NEEDED to be, to Blu Harbor, where the real adventure truly began.

I also love the family tree in the back of the book is a nice touch! That is a clue that the next book is going epic. Maps and Family Trees are just clues to the readers that plot points are about to get wild!

Characters

The characters in this book, as always are amazing. I feel in love with the citizen of Blu Harbor the moment Beth sat at that diner. The characters that interact with Beth are a family within themselves, they are so mysterious, enchanting, an engaging. I wanted to know more about them, their powers, their relationship to one another, and more importantly, I want every character to be happy. Usually when you’re reading a book, you might only care about one particular set of characters, instead Fire Within Me, has my interior soul worried about each member of the Strong, Merk family, even Vance.

Talk about your sweet brother and your mean brother. Billy and Vance are polar opposite. I love Billy, I really love Billy! Who inspired Billy? Cause I need some Billy mclovin’ right now. Any man who sees a woman struggling to get off a tire swing as romantic, needs to see me stumble across the room after staying in my reading position for to long, it’s practically an erotic poetry in motion as gravity takes over.  Billy is sweet, kind, loving, and romantic. Did I mention we first see Billy caring books? I mean he’s already understanding the most valuable part of my relationship. I really love Billy. Have I told you that already because I really do! I betcha we could light up the entire block! * wink* Billy is the prefect contrast to his jerk face brother. I’m sure Vance has a backstory that would make me think better of calling him a jerk, but he’s a jerk. I won’t be surprise if Billy blood was made from purse stardust while Vance Merk, the gym teacher, even his job screams EVIL, blood is actually pure oil.

Ships that NEED TO HAPPEN

Roxy and Gary, Oh please let that relationship work! That’s all I am going to say but please! I need Gary to do something so amazing he can win Roxy back and if he can’t win her back then at least let Roxy shock him into chicken strips! She waiting for him and he! He had the AUDACITY  to sleep with other woman! Oh! Ohh! He better do something incredible like, rearrange the universe so even the stars would read that their love is pure.

What I dislike is . . .
I HATE the fact I have to WAIT to see what happens next! Why, oh, why cruel world do I have to wait on what’s going to happen next! I NEED to know what’s going to happen to Billy, Roxy, Beth, Gary, Farrah, and ghostly mother Caroline! What’s going to happen to Vance and Rose! What is going to happen next! I love this book so much! I just really wanna know what’s going to happen so badly! Please don’t let me wait to long, pretty please. This book is amazing especially if you are a fan of Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic book.

Conclusion
five-stars

I’m really excited to see what happens next in this series. Crystall Sellers always knows how to create beautiful characters, wonderful plot twist, and even better romantic moments. I love the dialogue, the bickering, the romantic tension, and even the romantic release of the events that occurred in Fire Within Me. I love the relationships, and how they are developing. The magical elements of the book are not the main focus of the story line, but more of an adjective to the characters personality traits. What I love the most about this book is that Beth is a survivor,. She began this book as a victim of domestic abuse, then she faced her attacker, found love, found family, and most important found herself, her true self.

If anyone needs me I’ll just be waiting for the next wonderful addition to the Blu Harbor Witch series!

About Crystal Sellers

Crystal Sellers was born in a small town in Oklahoma where she was raised in the country and lived a very simple life. Her parents didn’t have much, but her needs were always met. Her siblings include one younger brother as well as an older step sister and younger step brother. She was born into a big close-knit family with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. Crystal was the first born grandchild on her mother’s side and her papa’s world.
She was born with a disability and went through a lot growing up; seeing doctors, wearing braces, surgeries, and physical therapy was a big part of her young life. Though it never slowed her down. Despite her disability she always found a way to make things happen.
Crystal met her husband just out of high school. They have been married for Fifteen years. They have a teenage son. He is the joy in their lives. Her family is the light of her life and the reason to keep going every day. Also part of the family are three mini dachshund’s; the bosses of the house.
Writing is just one of her passions. A way to escape to a world that she can only dream of.
