“Might as well take the bull by the horns. Tomorrow it is.”
Lydia watched Lord Aldershot wend his way out of the garden, taking the west gate to the stables. She wasn’t too sure that she liked that analogy. A bull? Was she the bull or its horns? Neither sounded flattering.”
Between going to school, being the sole care taker of my daughter, and trying my hand at blogging it’s no surprise that one great book review slipped away from me.
I’m really embarrassed that I didn’t tell you guys about this adorable book. It wasn’t until I was roaming my local Barnes & Noble that I remembered that I haven’t actually wrote a review for this book! Yikes! With sincerest apologizes to Macmillian Children’s Publishing Group and NetGallery, I want to tell you guys about this swoon worthy book by Cindy Anstey.
This is my frist time reading any of Cindy Anstey books. I tried to request an advance copy of her book Love, Lies, and Spies but missed the mark by two days before its release date. Thats whey when I saw Duels & Deception on NetGalley I almost knocked my desk into the wall I was pressing the “REQUEST” button so damn hard!
What isn’t there to love about Duel & Deception? Right off the back, the cover is giving you some serious Jane Austen flashback. This book is just simple romantic and I’m very happy to have read it as an advance copy in addition to re-read only to fall in love with it again.
The firs t portion of the book is just pure comedy gold. Lydia meets Robert and in the first few pages I had to explain to others around me why I was laughing so hard. Lydia, not to be confused with the personality of Lyida from cult classic Beatlejuice, is a headstrong yet intelligent young woman, who happens to be a wealth land owner while Robert is a lawyer tasked to speak to her about the estate. Robert is really there to help manage the legal portion of her estate.
Robert finds himself in complete and utter awe of Lydia, as he should! Lydia is absolutely amazing, and I might have a crush on her too! There is a bit of love, or rather chemistry at first sight with Robert and Lydia, which is good considering the fact that Lydia gets kidnapped! Cue Princess Peach moment!
The differences between this kidnapping is that Robert is right along side her! I have to confess the way that scene was told is just amazing literary genius! That moment is just pure comedy! I almost burned myself trying to read this book without spouting tea all over myself or my kindle!
My only issue about this book is that it is bit slow in the middle and it’s also only comes in paperback. This cover is way to gorgeous to be in just digital or paperback. I demand it be released for us HC booklovers!
None the less this book is amazing. I”m actually quite thankful that I was able to read it as a ARC, but I’m even more excited to share this book with you guys. As you already know life is hard being seperated from my love, but books like these make every joyous moment of forgetting the seperation worth it!
I’m thankful for Cindy Anstey and NetGalley for allowing me the chances to share this book with you!
